ON THE SCENE: 2013 AVN AWARDS 30TH ANIVERSARY SHOW
(Las Vegas, Nevada) - The AVN Awards held it's 30th anniversary event the the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, January 19th, following the wrap-up of the final day of the 4 day marathon that is the AVN Expo, also at the Hard Rock.
Co-hosts Asa Akira and Jesse Janes unveiled a new AVN Award trophy design before they began announcing the winners. Comedian April Macie, whom Howard Stern dubbed the "funniest, hottest comedienne," kept the crowd laughing over the course of the show.
AVN started off by paiding tribute to the adult-related personalities who passed away during the previous year, including adult performers Kandi Barbour, Sledge Hammer and Hollie Stevens, directors Kirdy Stevens (Taboo 1-5) and Big Top Video's Sam Lessner, mainstream softcore director Zalman King and First Amendment attorney Steven Swander.
Rapper Tyga then performed the first of two songs for the evening, "Rack City" surrounded by a bevy of hot porn chicks. Zumanity, billed as " the Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil," also performed through-out the event.
The most coveted award of the night, Best New Starlet 2013 was announced by Best New Starlet 2012 Brooklyn Lee who passed on the award to winner Remy LaCroix.
Vivid CEO Steven Hirsch, winner of the first AVN Visionary Award in 2012, took the stage to introduce this year's honoree and spent most of his time reminding the audience of the importance of defeating Los Angeles County's Measure B.
One particularly quirky event of the evening saw mainstream cross-over sensation James Deen delivering his "thanks" facing away from the audience as he accepted his Male Performer statutette.
The event proceded briskly and without any glitches as one by one "The Oscars of Adult" were given out to the many hard working individuals and teams who make up the adult industry and bring to life the entire planet's sweetest sexual fantasies and fetishes.
